IKEA Tanda Outlet Timers

For some reason, IKEA only sells their Tanda Outlet Timers in-store, not online. They are great for conserving electricity. IKEA has the best price I've found, 2 / $5.

Here's what they look like. My e815 takes blurry pics so I hope you can see them OK:

I posted about this at slickdeals.net, an awesome place for finding and sharing good deals. If you've never been there, go now!

I just got an email from a visitor asking how to use the Tanda timers. Here's what I responded with:

"Yup, it is confusing. The black circle behind the "clock" are little slots that move up and down, one position will be on and one will be off. Then as the circle turns, the switch will get hit by the slots in the on position, and turn the power on. The slider will override those settings."

I apologize, your comment did not make it any clearer. How does one set the time to turn on and then off?

So how do you "program" the slots?

Thanks in advance.

Kind of like tying a shoe, its hard to explain, but I'll try again.

The slots on the dial can be pushed in and pulled out vertically, that designates whether the time is on or off. When I am holding the unit with my hands with the dial facing me, I can use my thumb to push the slots in. To pull them out again, I can put my thumb on the dial and pull up on the slots with my finger.

I hope that helps, not sure how else to explain it....

I have been trying to figure out how to use mine too. I can understand about the black slots.

What I don't understand is if it is off until the time gets to an 'on' slot, how do you set it and forget it? or do you have to twist the 'clock' on it every day?

Hi Çð¢õÐëLìté,

You don't have to twist the clock, it runs on a motor that turns it around really slowly, and clicks on and off as you've set it, making a full rotation every twenty four hours.

Hope that helps!

Yeah, it was confusing. The white clock ring is surrounded by little black tabs that look like a single black ring. Simply push all the tabs in from the time you want the light on until the time you want it off.
