Sullivan Tire

I got a flat tire this weekend and I went to Sullivan Tire in Quincy Center to get it fixed. They charged $25 to plug the hole, fill the tire, and mount it back on the car. Not a bad price at all considering they offer quality service.

Would you believe my fiance got a flat tire too the very next day? Its true, so she'll be going to the Sullivan Tire out in Framingham tomorrow.

No more flat tires!

UPDATE June 1, 2007: I've started a new blog just about cars, you can check it out here:

Nice that your happy with a $25 plug. This is a $10 job anywhere else.
I needed to swap my 4 snows from my summer tires and stopped by Sullivan to get them done. They wanted $75 a wheel, that's $300 just to put my snows on. I went to NTB and had them switched for under $100. Needless to say, you'll never see me at a Sullivan tire.

I hear you, my fiance recently had two tires replaced there and it was $350. I was dumbfounded how much they charged her. We'll go to NTB next time!

A $10 plug anywhere else usually consists of an on-the car "shoelace" style repair reamed into the hole w/o off the rim inspection. This is not an approved repair for radial tires nor is it reliable. Therefore the $10 repair is a rip-off. $25 is a little high but it usually includes an off the rim inspection, patch-plug repair (the only kind approved for radial repair) new valve stem and wheel balance. You pay for what you get, and I'd rather pay a few extra $$$ for expert professional service (like the folks at Sullivan Tire) rather that go to the likes of NTB or Pep Boys and wonder if I'm going to have a wheel-off.

NTB told me that my car "requires" chrome plated valve stems. Not the steel threaded hi pressure stems mind you... just the decorative ones. they said they protect better against ozone. at $8.00 a piece. guess they were behind on their chrome valve stem quota.. whatever, they will never see my business.

Anyone have any experience with Town Faire Tire? They sponsored the winner's circle at a race I went to at the Waterford Speedbowl last year and I haven't forgotten the name since. Haven't been into one of their storesyet though. I'd be curious to hear what people think of them.

Re: Town Fair Tire

A couple of years ago I bought 4 Yokohama AVS tires at a considerable savings at Town Fair. Unfortunately, they neglected to remove the clip-on wheel weights and gouged all 4 of my BBS alloy wheels. Not just scrathed, gouged. They bought me 4 new wheels after weeks of arguing. A month later I ran over a metal bracket on the highway and had to replace the tire. To my disbelief, they gouged a fifth wheel..... just go to someplace that knows what they're doing. It's worth the extra money.

I work for Sullivan Tire at the Norwell location and Iknow that the company gives 1st quality service at resonable prices. The price of a flat repair at Sullivan should in my oppinion by a non issue. I personaly would pay that if I knew my family would be riding on a properly repaired tire. Better yet, buy the road hazard protection polocy and flat repairs are free.

I've been dealing with Sullivan Tire for at least 15 years. I always get the road hazard, used it twice, so it's paid for itself already. I was in the auto parts industry for 10 years, and dealt with several different locations. They would rather do it right the first time (ya it might be more) but none of us think about our tires until they're flat. Before you buy tires, shop around,. My brother got a quote for hundreds less on a set of 4 tires from the clowns at Town Fair and Sullivan matched it.

Sullivan tire is a total rip. John Croto a Sullivan employee who posted said "reasonable prices". Please! They charged a local body shop $200.00 for what should have been a $125.00 tire anywhere else. The body shop charged the insurance company who then charged... guess who? me. I had recently received a quote on the tires being replaced from a dealer and that's how I knew the price difference. The alloy rims only cost $167.00. A female friend went to Sullivan Tire to replace one tire. They tried to convince her there were lumps in the sidewalls and that all four needed replacement. She called me and I went to Sullivan and asked to see the "lumps". Of course there were none. It was just radial belt seams. when I pointed this out to the "expert" he slunk away and there was no more talk of sidewall lumps. They're nothing but scammers.

Sullivan tire is a total rip.Like the last guy said. My wifes windshield wiper refill slid out in the middle of a rainstorm she stopped at Sullivan to get it fixed. She called me from the waiting room to tell me it was a serious problem something about the wipers being out of align and hitting about an hour to fix.I told her to drive it home so I could look at it she pulled into a VIP around the corner. An 18 year old kid put a new wiper on for her in the rain and wouldn't even take $5 for the effort. That was a year ago I just changed the wipers still going strong. BEWARE

Any "scam" that you've refered to most likely was a miscomunication problem between the two parties. I've been doing buisness with Sullivan for many years now (26 to be exact) and not once have I had to question anything they tell me. I would recommend them to anyone.

According to both the Rubber Manufacturers of America and TIA the only proper repair method for a radial tire is an internal plug/patch.The vulcanized exteral plug people are speaking of here is not only considered a temporary fix but is contrary to what every major tire company in world recommends for a proper repair. These plugs actually cause additional damage to the belt of the tire (bad enough to have a hole now you want to strech it?)There will always be people who dont want to put any money in theyre car and are happy taking chances with the safety of theyre family, theyre self and other motorists.Like all things in life you get what you pay for.If you want you save the $15 bucks and piece of mind thats fine just dont expect me to feel bad when your wife is stranded on the interstate with the flat tire you saved money on.

My wife went in for new tires and scheduled maintenence. They said they could beat any dealers price (which shouldn't be hard to do), but in the end, they cost more. They replaced items that were not even on the scheduled maint sheet. In the end, I took the car back, made them remove a battery that was marked up 200% and demand that they apply the discount that they promised my wife. With all the "extra work" they performed, it was still as much as a dealer. BUYER BEWARE, because they will take advantage of you. Bad Business practices

I had a tire repair at Sullivan Tire, Norwell store and paid $25.00. What people neglect to tell you is, they find the leak, DISMOUMT the tire and repair it from the inside. After the repair, they rebalance the wheel and install it back on the car. Done with that, they place the spare tire back in it's place and secure it. Not a bad deal for $25.00. was happy enough i left a $5.00 tip for the mechanic. I need new tires now, you can rest assured, Sullivan is in the hunt.

My wife had a flat on Fri night and I change it and put on the spare. Sat I brought it to Sullivan in Braintree and they charged the $25 for the repair. We went out that night and barely made it home before it was flat again. So much for quality service. I don't enjoy changing tires and like to get what I pay for.

To the guy who said it was $300.00 to swap from snow tires to summer tires, i know for a fact its $100.00 for all four, unless a 20" wheel or bigger with Low-Pro's, as I just had mine done. Thats removing all four from the vehicle, dismount snow tires, clean wheel oxidization off the aluminum rim(corrosion on inner bead), new valve stem, Mount summer tires, inflate, balance, put back on vehicle, and bag winter tires and place back in vehicle. Very good thorough job, very happy with price!

I'm that guy. The tires were 18" for my Land Rover and are by no means low profile. Perhaps the guy thought I could afford it. The fact is he quoted $75 a tire and I went to NTB.
If you paid $100 at Sullivan you got a fair deal.

Ha I went & bought 4 tires and what I thought was the Protection plan, alignments & road hazard. My son took the car in 7 months later & it had no protection plan at all. One of the owners tried to convince me to pay for the whole package for $260.00. Well I was lied to from the beginning and tried to reach an agreement. They would not compromise and they lost 4 customers over a $20.00. Not impressed with their customer service
